Gersch Remodel
Turning a Rental Into a Fully Functional Home
This 1915 home had been partially converted into a short-term rental, with limited functionality and outdated finishes. The basement was dark and underutilized, and the upstairs lacked a second bathroom.
We began by carving a new bathroom into previously unused space near the kitchen. By removing a constricting wall, we created a more open back entry and introduced a beautifully tiled shower and shiplap wainscoting for character and warmth.
Downstairs, the basement was taken to the studs and rebuilt. We renovated the existing bathroom, reconfigured the bedroom with a proper closet and egress window, expanded storage for personal items, and enclosed the laundry area for improved flow and livability. The staircase was refreshed with shiplap detailing to unify the design throughout the home.
What was once dark and dated became a cohesive, fully functional property ready for guests — a complete transformation rooted in thoughtful planning and craftsmanship.
